As a practicing Buddhist, I collaborated with David Bunzey, Senior Filmmaker at BrightHouse Pictures, to create The Art of Healing: Medicine Buddha Sand Mandala. This 20-minute meditative film reflects my love for beauty, community, and timeless wisdom. It captures the meticulous seven-day creation of a Medicine Buddha sand mandala, celebrating the communities that support this sacred process. The project not only highlights the intricate artistry of Tibetan culture but also delves into the transformative power of healing through the ancient Buddhist teachings of non-attachment, impermanence, and compassion.
A film screening lead by the Asian Diversity Network, the film served as a moment of pause for BCG BrightHouse employees to find gratitude and set intentions for 2025.
Adil’s intention for the gathering beautifully encapsulated the essence of the day:
It’s December.
The sunset of another year.
D’you see all the colors in front of you?
The pink lemonade sky painted across wispy whites and fading blues.
The holidays waiting patiently for you to finish working out how
the richness of your life can fit into the cells of a spreadsheet.
Are you thinking about next year?
or replaying moments from this one
or both
and more
and there’s chai and biscuits
and a good number of us sitting here
and even more e-mails sitting unanswered—
can you grab a small snack, nod a warm hello, step out to send a quick message
care for the conflicts keeping you from the weekend—
Stop.
Breathe.
Time will always try to take you.
Don’t let it.
Breathe.
All we have is the now.
All we can keep is what’s here.
